  2. 1) What data sources has your team considered to develop your plan?
School AIMS data, CTE specific AIMS data, CTE tracking,

    2) What did the team identify as the root cause?
The lack of problem solving skills and higher level thinking often demonstrated in CTE classes

    3) Write your fractal goal (SMART):
All CTE students will attain 80% of course CTE standards based on course scope and sequence as evidenced by end of the year CTE standards tracking processes by May 5th 2009.

  3. For the Language Arts department, this is what we came up with:

    1. Our team looked at the 6-traits writing data for the fall '08 Deer Valley Writing Assessment. Specifically, we concentrated on the score for Word Choice, which was the lowest average score (3.85) out of the six traits for the district.

    2. Low word choice scores could be the result of students' reluctance to spend time properly editing and revising their work. The team agreed to implement more specific editing requirements during the writing process that would necessiate increased editing and revision.

    3. 90% of BCHS students will score a 4 or better on the Spring Deer Valley District Writing Assessment.

  5. 1)Based on tests given by us (BCHS Teachers) many students at various levels don't know high frequency vocabulary in Spanish. Also, professional studies have demonstrated that 80% of spoken Spanish is composed of the same 100 - 200 words.

2)Students spend 23 hours in an English environment. Also, a significant amount of time in Spanish class is dedicated to vocabulary that is not high frequency (warrior, emperor, hervir, apaciguar, etc.)

3)70% of students are going to improve their retrieval of high frequency Spanish vocabulary as evidenced by a pre test and post test.

  6. 1. Biology Level Team focused on district final exam common assessment data.

    2. Root Cause - We believe technical reading (analyzing graphs and tables) is the area of weakness with our students.

    3. Using a pre and post test,80% of Biology students will impove their skills in analyzing data in the form of graphs and tables with an 80% level of mastery within the next 4-5 weeks.

  8. 1. What data sources has your team considered?
We utilized a survey to gauge perceptions of standarized testing.

    2. What did your team identify as the root cause?
Our cause had 2 prongs - student apathy and lack of information.

    3. Fractal goal
To increase student awareness of the importance of high stakes tests to their future in education. The percentage of increase is yet to be determined.
We plan to accomplish this goal by creating posters that demonstrate the payback for achieving high levels of education.

  9. 1) What data sources has your team considered to develop your plan?

The math department has looked at failure rates, attendance rates, homework vs. test percentages, and AIMS Data.

    2) What did the team identify as the root cause?

We feel that a lack of mastery in the fundamentals at each level is a possible cause for low/average achievement.

    3) Write your fractal goal (SMART):
From pre-test to post-test, 80% of the students at each level in the math department will correctly answer 80% or 4 out 5 "Powerstrand" questions to show mastery of fundamental skills. Each 5 question pre-test and post-test will be given at all levels in the 4th Quarter of Spring 2009.

  10. 1) What data sources has your team considered to develop your plan?
The performing arts department looked at the AIMS data for writing. After reviewing the data and averaging the scores in all areas we found that word choice was the lowest score.

    2) What did the team identify as the root cause? Performing arts teachers felt that our students don't focus on higher level vocabulary taken from classroom instruction.

    3) Write your fractal goal (SMART):
80% of our performing arts students will receive a 4 or above in word choice on a performing arts department writing post test.
